Agency Brings Home Gold for Communications/PR Campaign of the Year; Bronze for Communications Team of the Year

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 19, 2013 – Tanis Communications, Inc., a leading Silicon Valley marketing and communications services firm, won Gold and Bronze Stevie Awards® for the Communications/PR Campaign of the Year – Marketing – Business-to-Business for their work with Terracotta, and Communications Team of the Year, on behalf of Oclaro, categories in the 11th Annual American Business Awards.

The Communications/PR Campaign of the Year – Marketing – Business-to-Business award recognized the programs Tanis Communications implemented for its client Terracotta, the leader in in-memory technologies for enterprise Big Data.  In a 100-day window, Terracotta was simultaneously planning its annual sales kick-off meeting, a major revision and product launch of its market-leading in-memory solution, BigMemory, and the introduction of a market-extending new analytics offering, In-Genius.  Tanis provided a seamless, rapid and broad extension to Terracotta’s internal team to prepare for and successfully execute strategies, messaging, web content, collateral development and PR in support of the three major events, and ramping up the ongoing PR program.  The agency also pitched Terracotta news and its story to a suite of key industry analysts as well as nearly 200 reporters resulting in a significant increase in press coverage.

In addition, Tanis worked side-by-side with Terracotta’s internal marketing team to establish differentiated messaging and a comprehensive brand framework. This process included competitive research and positioning, which established the structure and foundation for all marketing activities in 2013. With a refreshed brand strategy, Tanis then updated the creative identity and look and feel of all creative elements, collaborating with Terracotta to produce 50 different pieces of collateral to align with the brand framework and establish a unique brand voice.

“We pride ourselves on our ability to provide companies like Terracotta and Oclaro with holistic and integrated communications and marketing programs that accelerate business results,” said Nikki Tanis, President of Tanis Communications.  “As the need for integrated communications in today’s new and rapidly changing media environment becomes increasingly important, the validation of our results by our peers through the Stevies is a great testament to the work of the Tanis team combined with the talented organizations at Oclaro and Terracotta.”

The Communications Team of the Year award celebrates Tanis Communications’ role at Oclaro, a tier-one provider and innovator of optical communications and laser solutions.  Since 2009, Tanis Communications has partnered with Oclaro to successfully orchestrate the company’s strategic communications and execute the company’s PR, marketing communications, employee communications and financial communications programs.  In March 2012, Oclaro announced plans to merge with Opnext, a major competitor. Tanis created and managed the external and internal communications program for the merger announcement, in cooperation with the companies’ in-house resources, and then subsequently managed a rebranding program for the company that was launched at the close of the transaction.

Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word for “crowned,” the awards were announced Monday, June 17 in Chicago, with winners selected by more than 150 executives nationwide who participated in the judging process this year.  All organizations operating in the U.S.A. are eligible to submit nominations for the prestigious Stevie awards, and more than 3,200 entries were submitted for the 2013 competition.

“The Stevie Awards are an opportunity to honor so many wonderful organizations and executives,” said Michael Gallagher, President and Founder of the Stevie Awards.  “It’s remarkable to see the passion these award recipients have for their work, and we are proud to recognize their achievements.”
